"We want to be the go-to place for academics and industry partners to do cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research on topics with relevance to the world outside."

- Ramesh Rao, Director, UCSD Division of Calit2

The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology - Calit2 - is a multi-disciplinary organization with active ties to academic and industry research partners. Launched in 2001 by the state and industry partners, Calit2 (pronounced cal-eye-tee-two) is a partnership of UC San Diego and UC Irvine. Roughly two-thirds of the institute is located at UCSD, where 218 faculty members from 24 academic departments, dozens of staff researchers, hundreds of students, and a wide range of support staff work on multidisciplinary projects, often in close collaboration with industry labs and researchers.
